“What an amazing time we've all had! Our first time in France (asides from a brief child-free weekend in Paris!) and it's been so wonderful. It was also our first holiday as a group of two families and happily it'll be the start of many more to come. Boussagou has provided the most wonderful base for us to explore. The kids have LOVED it - the pool, the lovely rooms, the play barn and area. So many thoughtful touches around too that instantly made us feel at home. Ken and Bernadette were so friendly and helpful and made us feel instantly relaxed. We loved exploring the castle and local towns and had such a good time at the lake in Cazals. “So lovely to finally get here!! After a 2 year wait due to Covid, it was definitely worth waiting for. The gite was perfect for the 3 of us, and the private, sunny terrace a bonus. We made good use of the pool, the table football, and introduced our 13 yr old daughter to darts!

- Grotte de Pech Merle - Worth the drive to see these incredible pre-historic paintings (be sure to pre-book - 2x English tours a day)
- Canoe along the Dordogne (-We love the 14km 6 chateau route with Canoe Detente)
- Chateau de Beynac - Worth going early as it gets busy, but interesting audio tour in English.
- Monpazier market (Thurs am)
- Jardins de Marquessac - We went to the candlelight evening which is a lovely way to enjoy the gardens before and after sunset.”

Oh how good it is to be back! Originally due in July 2020, then July 2021 and finally able to get here for July 2022.

The gite is just how we remembered except this time with the lovely new bathroom and the en-suite addition, which our 13 year old immediately claimed and has thoroughly enjoyed having her own space.

Everything was how we remembered. Friends who we met in 2016 were here again for our 1st week, which made it extra special.

The pool again was an absolute joy as always. Very welcome during the 2nd week, with extremely high temperatures.

We have all enjoyed our daily ice creams and beers and lots of tournaments on the bar football and table tennis.

Loved staying at the pool until 8pm most evenings.

A huge thank you to Bernie and Ken, loved my early morning lattes and pool side chats. As always great hosts who always look out for you and made sure we had everything we needed.

This holiday like for so many was so needed. The girls have loved every moment, it really is like home from home.

Cannot believe that it has come to an end but I guess sadly all holidays must.

Beautiful Pigeonnier has been the perfect place to stay - every convenience thought of - the best cooking stuff I've ever seen in a holiday rental - lovely big comfy rooms and in such an incredible setting - best bit is getting to spend time with Bernie & Ken and seeing the local wildlife.

Fantastic fun playing darts, ping pong and perfect pool. Great walking and boating.

Because of Covid we (un)fortunately were the only guests this week of Bernadette and Ken. Normally the place is supposed to be fully booked of course, but not this year. “A truly wonderful way to spend the end of our summer! We loved the peace, tranquility and beauty of Boussagou and so appreciated all the care and thought you have put into making our stay comfortable, fun and relaxing!

The boys have loved collecting eggs, cycling and swimming, as well as the playground and table football. We have loved the well kitted out gites, honesty bar and fabulous barn where we have all dined together each evening.

River boat from La Roque Gageac was well worth doing and we were amazed by the houses built into the rock face. Caves at Pech Merle were a bit of a drive but incredible. To see artwork from 29,000 years ago was a real privilege. We all stuffed our faces at the night market at Belves, enjoyed a stroll through Monpazier and market at Cazals. All in one week! Need 2 next year!”

“What a beautiful setting, a quiet and stunning place to stay + escape to as well as to enjoy the villages, canoeing + all the Dordogne has to offer. We loved Ken and Bernadette's recommendations for restaurants and the well equipped gîte which is beautifully kept.

Such a great place, particularly the pool and things to do around the 'hamlet' for the children.

“Our third visit to Boussagou, 2016 & 2017 staying in La Longere and this year at Le Pigeonnier.

Our stays here just get better and better and never, ever disappoints.

We have loved every minute of our stay and once again Bernie and Ken have been superb hosts. From the lovely welcome meal in the new 'Stables', to organising tickets for the amazing Medieval show in Gourdon, they have been there for us.

The girls have loved yet again the playbarn, the pool, the climbing frame and trampoline and the new addition of 'The Stables' - A fabulous place to cool off during the day and a great place to catch up in the evening. Our oldest daughter Tilly loved playing Connect 4 and our younger twins Hattie and Bessie the jigsaws and "Slug in a Jug'.

We were very fortunate to holiday with two lovely families who have become firm friends whom we met in 2016 and 2017 at Boussagou and this has added to what has been two fabulous weeks.

Loved the outside spaces, surrounding nature, the chicks and of course Branston and Pickle .. couldn't help giving her some milk. The house had everything we needed and we were very comfortable. You have been very thoughtful with what's provided. No worrying about buying cleaning products, etc. and sometimes it's little things like that which all add up to a relaxing holiday.

“A return visit for us after being here in 2016 staying in the same gite. We knew as we headed off last year we would be back.

This year's holiday did not disappoint and we again had an amazing two weeks in La Longere.

Everything we loved about the gite last year, we loved again this year. Same for the pool and the beautiful grounds. We love the new sunloungers and very plush cushion covers - the icing on the cake and perfect for the fantastic pool.

The girls again made use of the playbarn every single day and again the climbing frame and trampoline.

We visited a few old haunts again this year - Domme, La Roque Gageac and the fantastic Gardens of Marqueyssac at night and this year visited some new places too - St Cirq La Popie and Monpazier - would highly recommend those!

The night market at Belves was again an absolutely fantastic evening out with some great new friends and of course Bernie & Ken. Another scorcher evening to match the previous years.

Loved having my "me" time with my Latte out the front first thing every morning and getting the evening sun at the back; perfect for those barbeques and Ken and Bernie collecting Tilly to feed the cats or go to look at the wildlife camera for any visitors.

Bernie and Ken - again perfect hosts - thank you for having us again this year - thank you for a fantastic barbeque and taking us all to the night market. We've met some wonderful friends again this year and had another amazing holiday. The girls are already asking can we come back again next year!

“We have spent the last week in perfect bliss! Wonderful weather, beautiful surroundings and peace (apart from our children and their new best friends!). We all had a fabulous time. Everything here has been set up perfectly, from the pool, to the play barn and the house. We loved visiting the chickens and feeding the horses. Had amazing runs and cycle rides. We had a very lazy week as next week we are staying near Sarlat and will visit all the sites along the river, but we enjoyed Monpazier in particular and had a gorgeous lunch in Le Petit France in the corner of the square. Thoroughly recommend the night market at Belves and had a nosy around the flea market in Cazals. We spent a lot of our week by the pool and catching crickets in the meadow!

“What can we say except this has been one amazing holiday.     ★★★★★

We have loved absolutely every minute of it. We knew the minute we turned up the drive to the gites that we had made the right decision to stay here.

The gite is just perfect for our needs. We love the childrens triple room; you don't get that very often and meant that all the three girls could stay together. The addition and thoughtfulness of the books and games to suit all ages has been very much appreciated. The girls haven't touched their own that they brought. Our room and the other double (Mum and Dad would have loved it!) perfect. So much storage and a real feel of peacefulness and relaxing.

The garden has been a hit with the girls; lovely and safe and the swing very popular. Getting the sun in the afternoon and evening was wonderful; what a great way to have our evening meal with the sun on us. I will miss my little seat out the front where we get the morning sun. Have loved sitting there with my latte and taking in the beautiful surroundings.

The playbarn has been such a hit with the girls and us. Love the close proximity to the gite so you can keep an eye on them and it's filled with practically everything to suit all ages. The girls have loved the swings and the slide too and I have to confess I enjoyed the trampoline :)

And finally, the pool - wow! The setting and the pool itself is spectacular. We have tried to get in the pool at least once a day and stayed for hours. The shallow end perfect for the twins and the floats much appreciated as Hattie and Bessie's swimming has greatly improved. Tilly has loved every aspect of the pool and we've made some great friends. Tilly and Archie in particular, and loved that they could walk to each others gites without us worrying.

Loved:
Gardens of Marqueyssac at night. Magical. Won't ever forget that night and the children fell in love with the lit up fairies on stilts singing.
Domme. A repeat visit for us but nevertheless such a pretty village with spectacular views of the river. Love the train ride around the village.
La Roque-Gageac. Another repeat visit but we hadn't done the boat trip. Worthwhile and it's just an hour. Canoeing too of course. Tilly and Kelvin loved this and this was Tilly's first experience.
Chateau des Milandes - beautiful. Gardens and Chateau lovely and interesting history.
Rocamadour - another repeat visit but a first for the children. Recommend the bus if small children to take you from the car park to the city.
Belves Night Market - have never experienced a night market before and this was recommended by Bernadette & Ken. All the families and B&K went and it was such an amazing evening. We loved, loved it! If you do nothing else, please experience this!

We cannot finish our guest comment without mentioning Bernadette & Ken. You have both been amazing hosts and this has been the icing on the cake for this holiday. Your kindness and the time you have spent with the children has been greatly appreciated. Letting them help feed the animals, letting them discover whether or not Suzie has left an egg and this week introducing them to George, the cockerel! These are experiences they do not get at home and you have always found time to stop, talk and recommend things for us as a family.

The whole holiday has been a joy from start to finish. You have a beautiful home here, perfect setting and perfectly situated to visit both the Dordogne and the Lot. We really do not want to go home but as with all holidays they have to end, but we will be back most definitely.

Our family of four stayed at Le Pigeonnier and I can't speak highly enough of the gite. The pool is stunning and even has an honesty bar with drinks etc at cost price! There is a great children's play area with swings and a trampoline and a barn with bikes, toys and a fancy dress box. In the mornings you can see if the chickens have laid eggs and Ken very often lets you take some, our children loved this. The gite is in a great area to use as a base to explore the Dordogne and the Lot area as it is right on the border of both. We are already planning on returning next year. ”

“Spent a wonderful two weeks at La Longère. It has been our first holiday to France as a family and there has been something for everyone at Boussagou. Violet (3) loved feeding the horses, cats and jumping on the trampoline, whilst Oscar (7) particularly enjoyed the table football, table tennis and the swimming pool, and Gareth and I spent relaxing evenings savouring the local wine and cheese.

Violet was lucky enough to have her third birthday whilst we were here, which was made even more special with some wonderful strawberry cupcakes made by Bernadette.

The weather has been fantastic and Ken and Bernadette have been the perfect hosts.

When not enjoying the delights Boussagou has to offer, we can thoroughly recommend trips out to Gouffre de Proumeyssac, Parc Animalier De Gramat, La Forêt des Singes, Château de Bonaguil and Préhisto Parc. Also canoeing on the Dordogne is an experience not to be missed. Thank you. ”

“We've had 3 glorious weeks of reading, writing and relaxing. Just what we'd hoped! Helen finally started writing her first novel (Watch this space! Perhaps she'll come back to finish it off). Boussagou has been the perfect, peaceful place for thinking and inventing stories! And it has rejuvenated Ivan so he can go back and face another term of teaching. “We have had a wonderful holiday at Boussagou. Two weeks of sunshine, beautiful surroundings, good company and three very happy children!!! The area is fantastic, so close to lots of great places to visit. The lake in Cazals was a lovely place to take the children to let them play in the sand and swim in the lake. Boussagou is just gorgeous, the houses, gardens, play area and of course the pools have all made for a very enjoyable and memorable holiday. Thank you Ken & Bernadette, we hope to see you again!”

“An excellent trip, very good to entertain, relax and enjoy the pool! One of my favourite trips ever to France, if not the best. I loved and would highly recommend it to anybody of all ages. Many activities to do from canoeing and adventure ropes - Pradines - to music and food festivals and outdoor markets. The perfect location with many villages and places to explore. Also there are bikes for cycle rides and also a perfect 2.6km track around the gites. I found myself playing lots of ping pong. I loved the stay and thank you. - Ben (age 12)
